The long-awaited reunion of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg on the small screen has been brought to an end after one season as Amazon won't be renewing Truth Seekers for a second season. The series centred on “a team of part-time paranormal investigators who team up to uncover and film ghost sightings across the UK, sharing their adventures on an online channel for all to see". Things take an unexpected turn when it becomes clear that the frequency of paranormal activity is all linked, and the fate of the world is resting in their hands.
Series star and co-creator took to social media to reveal that the Truth Seekers will no longer be seeking the truth.
“Sadly, Truth Seekers will not be returning for a second season. Truth Seekers has not been renewed, which is a massive kick in the willy for me. We really put our all into this – our heart and soul, and blood in some cases, so to not come back is really sad for us. It’s a shame. I think we had lots of lovely ghost stories to tell – stories that will remain now untold. If you liked the show, thank you. And if you didn’t, are you happy now? Happy now?”
While a far cry from the laugh out loud days of Spaced, Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, Truth Seekers was a rare horror-comedy that remembered to be genuinely creepy as well as funny. I still think Pegg's minor role as Frost's boss was a missed opportunity as they don't share a great deal of screen time. That said, Truth Seekers had way more mileage in it than one season, and plenty of shows have had a bumpy first season before hitting its stride. Also starring Samson Kayo, Susie Wokoma, Emma D'Arcy, Julian Barratt, and Malcolm McDowell having the ruddy time of his life, Truth Seekers is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
