Jessica Fletcher herself has made her feelings clear on NBC’s reboot of Murder She Wrote, Angela Lansbury told the Associated Press that she believes the new series will be a mistake and is a name only remake;
"I think it's a mistake to call it `Murder, She Wrote, because Murder, She Wrote will always be about a Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person … So I’m sorry that they have to use the title Murder, She Wrote, even though they have access to it and it’s their right.”
The new series will star Octavia Spencer in the lead role although it has not yet been confirmed she will be called Jessica Fletcher. Despite Angela Lansbury’s disapproval for the new series she is a fan of the Academy Award winning actress;
"I saw her in `The Help' and thought she was absolutely wonderful, a lovely actress. So I wish her well, but I wish it wasn't in `Murder, She Wrote.'"
NBC recently updated another iconic crime solving classic with Ironside, but the new take on the Raymond Burr starer was cancelled after just four episodes aired. Here’s hoping NBC have more luck with Murder She Wrote, only Sleepy Hollow and Agents of SHIELD emerged as ratings winners out of their new fall line-up.
