There’s still a couple of months before Cap returns in The Winter Soldier but Marvel Studios have begun talks with the Russo brothers to come back and direct the third movie.
Fueled by positive test screenings Marvel are clearly happy with the way the sequel is shaping up, this should also silence the cynics who voiced concern when reports surfaced that two weeks of additional filming were required. The nature of the extra filming still remains a mystery and could well have been new scenes opposed to reshoots, either way the new stuff is hitting the spot and Marvel are etching out an outline with the brothers Russo to plot out Cap’s next solo adventure. At this stage all we can be sure of is that Chris Evans will be back in the title role.
Naturally, no deals will be done until The Winter Solider hits cinemas in April and technically speaking a third movie hasn’t been officially given the go-ahead, that being the case this is Marvel Studios we’re talking about here so getting the development ball rolling early is business as usual.
The First Avenger was the lowest performing entry in the Phase One cannon, by no means a flop and taking a healthy $370 million theatrically the period set movie was always going to be the hardest sell but the $1.5 billion haul from The Avengers should give Cap an added boost.
Captain America: The Winter Solider arrives in cinemas April 4 but UK Marvel fans get to see it a whole week earlier on March 26.
