Shortly before the Season 12 finale, FX has picked up the long-running spy comedy series Archer for a well deserved season 13. Created by Adam Reed, Archer charts the misadventures of their privately owned black ops/spy agency with a team of agents that are as dangerous as they are prone to zany antics. The animated series has undergone several reboots over the years, with seasons 8, 9 and 10 being set in Archer's mind, with each season taking on a different setting.

Speaking about the renewal, FX President of Original Programming, Nick Grad had this to say;

“Archer remains one of FX’s signature series and we are happy to extend its legacy with another globetrotting season. Like Sterling Archer himself, Adam Reed, Matt Thompson, Casey Willis and the entire team at Floyd County Productions are endlessly creative and always find a way to surpass themselves. Our thanks to them and the incredible voice cast who keep this fan-favourite spy comedy as fresh and exciting as ever.”

Producers Matt Thompson and Casey Willis  added;

“On behalf of our entire team of talented illustrators, animators, writers and actors, I just wanted to say… ahhh, damn. I had something for this. Nope. Lost it. So… I guess just thanks?”

The renewal comes after the finale bid an emotional goodbye to Archer's spymaster mother Malory, voiced by the late great (and sorely missed) Jessica Walter. Having recorded all of her lines for the season before she passed away in April, Archer season 12 serves as her final performance. Without spoiling anything, Malory was given a graceful exit from the series, which was pieced together from old recording sessions of Walter. There is no escaping that the lack of Malory will be keenly felt, but in true spirit to the character, she would want them to go on without her.

UK fans can catch Archer season 12 early next year when it arrives on Netflix.
