Ben Affleck's Live By Night Set To Lose $75 Million

Ben Affleck's period gangster film Live By Night is set to lose Warner Bros a reported $75 million following its disastrous global performance.

Made on an estimated budget of $65 million (plus many more millions to market and distribute), Live By Night has only managed to generate $19 million worldwide and can now be officially labelled a flop. Critics were mostly middling towards the finished film and in the absence of garnering Oscar nominations, Live By Night is unlikely to improve upon its dire box office situation.

Based on the book by Dennis Lehane, Live By Night was a passion project for Ben Affleck who had been working on directing, writing, and starring in an adaptation since 2012. While Warner Bros (and indeed Ben Affleck) are disappointed, the shortcomings of Live By Night won't put the dampeners on their relationship (yet) as Affleck is a major part of the DC Film line-up and a firm fixture at Warner Bros.

Not only does Affleck lead the cast in this year's Justice League, but he will also direct and star in a solo Batman movie that might start production later this year. Before he dons the cowl again, Affleck is directing and starring in a new adaptation of Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution for 20th Century Fox.

Since his debut as a director with Gone Baby Gone, Affleck has proven himself to be a skilled filmmaker with the awards-friendly The Town and the Oscar-winning Argo. The Town and Argo were both solid hits for Affleck and Warner Bros, so one mild disaster shouldn't rock the boat too much. That said, when Affleck does eventually start making The Batman, it could come with a few more studio caveats in the wake of Live By Night.

Also starring  Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher, Justice League launches in cinemas on November 17.
