Well considering it is finally warming up outside and the sun is shining, it is definitely not a sunshiny day for new releases. But while the selection is super slim this week, it does feature the biggest movie of the year and the 6th biggest movie of all time, Spider-Man: No Way Home. After the events of the last film with Mysterio exposing Spider-Man’s identity for the world to see, Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) life has been less than ideal. His family and friends have all suffered from the constant barrage of public scrutiny that being Spider-Man has brought. So when Peter goes to Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help, hoping he can conjure a spell to make the world forget he is Spider-Man. But the spell goes awry and cracks open the multiverse bringing friend and foe alike from other worlds into Peter’s world. Now he must race against time to find a way to get things back to normal before the universe caves in on itself.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man outings have definitely made an impact in the world of superhero movies, and with this film, it also changed the game for the slate of upcoming Marvel movies by opening up the multiverse to film fans and literally making anything possible. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a wild ride full of spectacular effects, emotional weight and some really great surprises for fans. The now well-known biggest of which is the addition of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to the Tom Holland universe as all three screen Spidey’s join forces to save the world. The pace is fantastic, the action jaw dropping, the performances stellar and the payoff huge. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a must watch for anybody looking for spectacular escapism fun. Very highly recommended.

Also of note this week is Chucky: Season One, the new TV incarnation of the killer doll movie franchise and in my opinion, the series outdoes all the movies in terms of quality. Also check out a new 4K edition of the classic 1987 sci fi Robocop, and a new Criterion Collection Blu-ray of the 1987 Ed Harris film Walker, directed by Alex Cox.

Until next week movie lovers, stay safe!
