I had the benefit of heading to the Calgary Expo again this year. This will mark my third time going.
A lot of people, me included, thought that it would be hard for them to top last years convention were they had the likes of the entire Next Generation cast come. How would they bring in guests that would match the excitement of last year, and how would the deal with the continued growth of the Convention.
I have to give to them, because they pulled it off. Not only did they come back with lots of great guests like John Bowerman, and Misha Collons, but they dealt with the increased crowed in a great way.
They opted to not sell any tickets on convention day, and capped ticket sales. This resulted in few to no over sales. What this also did was result in what is most annoying about conventions. The ability to not walk around the convention floor, and the extremely long waits to see all the people you want to meet.
As always Calgary's cosplay community was in full force. I am always impressed by the level of quality that the Calgary Expo brings out when it comes to cosplayers. This year there seemed to be a lot of #10 and #11 Doctors running around (David Tennant, and Matt Smith for non Doctor Who lovers), but overall the cosplay was top notch, and diverse.
My hat goes off (if I wore one) to the organizers of the Expo this year, they did a great job and I look forward to seeing how next year turns out. I can only assume that we will see great guests, and lots of fans making their way out again.
Every "Geek" and "Nerd" in Alberta should make their way to the Calgary Expo if they have the chance.
Below you will find a gallery of some of the great cosplayers this year. Thank you to @krstnlndsy for taking all the pics.
