Filming is now underway for Fast and Furious 9, but the cast list keeps growing with news breaking that Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren are both reprising their respective roles from the previous sequel. Theron starred as the main antagonist, Cipher, who managed to slip through the fingers of Dom and Co at the end of Fast & Furious 8. Taking into account that Jason Statham's Dekkard Shaw started out as the villain, before becoming part of the ever-growing Fast Family. Could Theron follow suit and team-up with the gang to take down a bigger threat? Murdering somebody close to Dom didn't prevent Shaw earning his place at that barbeque at the end of the movie. There are no plot details on offer yet, so I won't dwell on speculation for a moment longer.

While we won't be seeing The Stath in Fast 9, we will be seeing his mum with Helen Mirren returning as Shaw family matriarch Magdalene Shaw. Hopefully, she'll have more to do in Fast 9 than her first appearance in a sweary cameo, after all, it was her dream to get behind the wheel in a Fast and Furious movie, and all we got was her drinking a cup of tea. However, Mirren will be popping by to check up on her kids in this summer's Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw. The highly anticipated offshoot of the mega-franchise stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, and lands in cinemas on August 2.

Joining Vin Diesel are franchise regulars Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and Nathalie Emmanuel, while John Cena does his best to fill the Dwayne Johnson shaped gap in the ensemble. Given the widely reported on set "beef" between Diesel and Johnson, it's highly unlikely we'll see Hobbs back in the main franchise beyond a possible cameo. Fast & Furious 9 is set for release May 22, 2020, with the tenth and final instalment due out in 2021.
