Charlize Theron is in talks to join the cast of Fast and Furious 8 as a mysterious new villain to cause havoc for Dom and the gang. According to Variety, Theron has received an offer for the role from Universal with negotiations currently underway.

Theron is no stranger to vehicular action movies; she co-starred in the remake of The Italian Job and her role in last year’s splendidly insane Mad Max Fury Road was a joy to behold. Playing the fearless Imperator Furiosa, Theron proved to be every bit as badass as Tom Hardy’s Mad Max and we can only hope a Furiosa spin-off happens some day. Should Theron join the Fast and Furious family she will likely be locked in to appear in the remaining sequels, Theron will also have the honour of being the first female villain of the franchise.

Adding to the already jam-packed ensemble cast has been key to the ongoing success, Fast Five picked up Dwayne Johnson, and Furious 7 enlisted Kurt Russell and Jason Statham. Hopefully, Helen Mirren’s plea last year to Vin Diesel to join the cast will be taken seriously, and an announcement is around the corner. All we know for sure about Fast 8 is that Straight Outta Compton director F Gary Gray is in the driver’s seat, and the action will relocate to New York.

Universal are in the early stages of developing some Fast and Furious spin-offs that could see Dwayne Johnson finally get to make a Hobbs solo movie. Rumour has it that Tej (Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges) and Roman (Tyrese Gibson) are also up for a spin-off, but as it’s early days in the process Universal has yet to confirm any details.

Fast 8 rides into cinemas on April 14, 2017.
