If you've already whizzed through the first season of Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, then prepare yourself for good tidings. We'll be returning for more Chilling Adventures sooner than expected with a special Christmas episode arriving on Netflix next month. Series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa broke the news via Twitter, and Netflix recently released the official synopsis for the special episode titled A Midwinter’s Tale.

"The Church of Night, like all covens, celebrates the Winter Solstice — the longest night of the year — when families gather together around the Yule Fire to sing pagan carols, tell ghost stories and huddle against the supernatural creatures that come out to cause mischief. Since the Winter Solstice is when the veil between this world and the next is at its thinnest, it’s the perfect time to conduct a séance — which Sabrina convenes, to try and contact her mother. But the holidays are also a time for guests and visitors — both welcome and unwelcome — and you never know what might come down the chimney."

The new Sabrina might be a world away from the cheesy 90s cult series that starred Melissa Joan Hart, but the updated incarnation of the Spellmans has been a huge hit for Netflix. Full disclosure, I wasn't expecting much from this series before I saw the trailers, and I ended up zipping through this thoroughly enjoyable (and occasionally dark) fresh take over a single weekend. In an odd turn of events, The Satanic Temple has filed a lawsuit against Netflix over the use of a statue (Baphomet) that the religious and political activism group has copyrighted. Seeking $150 million in damages for “alleged copyright infringement, trademark violation and injury to business reputation,” the case is still unfolding.

Chilling Aventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter's Tale will be available on Netflix from December 14.
