Deadpool 3 Finds Its Director

Deadpool 3 is finally moving forward and has found its director in regular Ryan Reynolds collaborator Shawn Levy. The duo first worked together on last year's high-concept hit Free Guy, one of the first big movies to help bring the box office back to life after more than a year of delays. Their second collaboration just arrived on Netflix with The Adam Project, which has already broken a few Netflix records.

Levy has built a career mainly making family-friendly entertainment, Big Fat Liar, Real Steal, Cheaper By The Dozen, and three helpings of Night at the Museum. As a producer and director on Stranger Things, Levy is no stranger to more grown-up set-pieces, and it's evident that his creative partnership with Reynolds is that rare find in Hollywood.

It has taken Disney a hot minute to figure out how Deadpool's R-rated brand of shenanigans will fit into their PG-13 MCU; Disney has promised us that Deadpool will remain as shockingly violent and foul-mouthed as ever. Now that the doors to the multiverse are open, all things become possible. It is also worth noting that since Disney pulled all of the Netflix Marvel shows and re-released them on Disney+, there's a place for the R-rated side of the MCU to call home. There is already talk of a new season of Daredevil, and then there's the forthcoming Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali. While details on the latter remain under wraps, we can only hope it stays true to the original movie and its source material.

Ryan Reynolds has been enjoying a well-earned break from acting for the last few months, and it's believed Deadpool 3 will be his first project after his hiatus. As it's a Marvel movie, there are no details on when Deadpool 3 will start production or arrive in cinemas. However, after four long years of uncertainty, the sequel is finally moving full steam ahead.
