The study group might have disbanded nine years ago (really?!), but the desire for Community to fulfil its destiny with the movie part of the #SixSeasonsandaMovie is still strong, and Donald Glover has given an exciting update. During a press event for his new Amazon series, a reboot of the hit movie Mr and Mrs Smith, Glover revealed that the Community Movie script is finished.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, here's what Glover had to say;
"I was told that the script — literally, I was texting today — I was told that the script was done."
While that might be a slither of an update, it's significant as previous reports indicated that Glover might not be able to appear in the movie due to scheduling conflicts. However, we've had two industry strikes since then, and perhaps series creator Dan Harmon has figured out a way to reassemble his Greendale gang in a way that works for everybody's hectic schedules.
The last time we saw Glover's beloved Troy Barnes on Community, he was embarking on sailing around the world to inherit the late Pierce Hawthorne's fortune. Travelling with his idol, LeVar Burton, Troy said goodbye to Abed (Danny Pudi) and the rest of his friends at Greendale for a great adventure. However, a news report glimpsed in the next episode revealed that pirates were holding Burton hostage in addition to a non-celebrity. Was Troy that non-celebrity? Will we get to see how LeVar Burton and Troy escape their captors? All this and more will ( hopefully) be answered as the Community Movie edges ever closer to being willed into existence.
Meanwhile, Donald Glover is back on our screens with a reboot of Mr and Mrs Smith, taking the essential premise of the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie movie. The series (created by Francesca Sloane & Donald Glover) promises a fresh spin and a harder tone than the original film.
All Mr and Mrs Smith episodes will be available on Amazon Prime from February 2nd.
