There is something to cheer about for Downton Abbey fans. The show’s executive producer is contemplating a film version of the period drama. However, he said made it clear that the movie may not feature characters that have left the show. Gareth Neame says Dan Steven’s character Matthew Crawley, who died in a car crash three years ago may not make a reappearance.

The forthcoming sixth season of the series on ITV and PBS will be its last. Neame said the film version would “be stand-alone”. He added that the show could be before or after the period the show is currently set in.

He said that he may collaborate with Julian Fellowes – Downton Abbey creator to make a new drama The Gilded Age, which is in 19th century and is being billed by some as “US Downton”. However, there is no clarity on whether it will film the slot once occupied by Downtown Abbey.

He said it’s a good thing that the series is coming to an end and that it was better than running it for another year.

Downton Abbey is a hit period drama TV series created by Julian Fellowes. It is set in the United Kingdom and co-produced by Masterpiece and Carnival Films. Its first episode was aired on ITV in the UK and Ireland in 2010. It made it to the United States in 2011 on PBS as part of the Masterpiece Classic anthology.

The series is set in the fictitious Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey. It revolves around the lives of the Crawley family and people who surround them. The series is set in the post-Edwardian era and shows how the history changes the life of Crawley family. A great many important historical events have been depicted in the film, including the sinking of the RMS Titanic. If the film version of the hit TV series is made, it could be great news for the fans.
