Back in December, Disney decided to axe its surprisingly brilliant revival of DuckTales after three seasons. I'm not even sure Scrooge McDuck could solve the mystery of why Disney has cancelled one of its best revivals of all time, but as a consolation prize, we are getting a feature-length finale to bid this mighty series a fond farewell. The 90-minute special is appropriately titled "The Last Adventure" and will feature an impressive list of returning guest stars amongst the cast with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Giancarlo Esposito, Julie Bowen, Catherine Tate, Stephanie Beatriz, Jason Mantzoukas, and Amy Sedaris all reprising their respective roles.
Produced by Matt Youngberg and Francisco Angones, the new DuckTales has everything a reboot should have, it honours the past while creating something that feels fresh and so much funnier than expected. Featuring a fantastic voice cast that includes David Tennant, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Bobby Moynihan, Jim Rash, Kate Micucci, and Paget Brewster. I can't stress enough how much I enjoyed this show; binging the first two seasons on Disney+ during the lockdown was a much-needed dose of nostalgia. Speaking about the forthcoming series finale, executive producer Matt Youngberg had this to say;
"It has been an absolute honor to adventure along with the Duck Family for three seasons of derring-do bad and good luck tales. Ever since Carl Barks took a silly squawking duck from a funny animal cartoon and sent him looking for pirate gold, these characters have been part of a constantly evolving legacy of invention and reinvention. We set out to honor all those things that we've loved about 'DuckTales' since we were kids and introduce new parts of that legacy for families around the globe. Along the way, our stellar crew, unbelievable cast and endlessly supportive fans have become a bit of a family ourselves. And it has been a great joy to solve mysteries and rewrite history alongside them."
To whet our appetites further, Disney also released the official synopsis for the series finale.
In the finale titled "The Last Adventure!," the future of adventuring hangs in the balance as the Duck family uncovers earth-shattering secrets in a final standoff with the Fiendish Organization for World Larceny (F.O.W.L.).
DuckTales The Last Adventure will arrive on Disney XD on March 15.
