The first image of Emily Blunt from the set of Mary Poppins has been unveiled, and every stitch of three-time Academy Award-winning costume designer, Sandy Powell's work is utterly and perfectly
supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

The last time Powell won an Oscar was for her resplendent work on Young Victoria that starred Emily Blunt in her breakout role. So don't be surprised to see Powell nominated when the 2019 Oscar nominations are announced.

Directed by Rob Marshall (Into The Woods, Chicago) Mary Poppins Returns is set 25 years after the events of the original 1964 classic, and the now grown up Banks children are in need of some help from their magical former nanny to get their lives back on track. To accompany the first image, Disney has released an updated synopsis

"The film is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books. In the story, Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Julie Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane.

After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Meryl Streep)."
