The long-in-the-works Frasier sequel series is finally moving forward, with Paramount+ giving the show a full season order. While it remains unclear if any of the other surviving original cast members will drop by for a guest spot, Kelsey Grammer will reprise his iconic role as Doctor Frasier Crane.

The original series was a spin-off from the hugely popular Cheers, which ended after 11 seasons in 1993. However, later that year, Grammer returned as Frasier in an all-new series that charted the good doctor's attempts to start a new life for himself in Seatle following a bitter divorce from Lilith. Starting a new job as the host of his talk radio show, Frasier reconnects with his ex-cop father, Martin, and his fellow psychiatrist brother Niles; he sets about starting a fresh chapter of his life.

Running for 11 seasons, more than 260 episodes, and winning a truckload of awards, Frasier came to a bittersweet yet optimistic end in 2004. Plot details over the revival remain under wraps, but Grammer has previously teased that the new series will focus on the relationship between Frasier and his now grown-up son Freddie.

Grammer has remained a driving force of the Frasier revival since he first floated the idea of a possible sequel series back in 2018. I have a lot of love for Frasier; I've lost count of how many times I've watched it, and like all long-running sitcoms, it loses something once the central will they won't they romance finally happens. That said, Frasier stuck the landing with one of the most heartfelt endings in sitcom history. So, I hope that whatever Grammer and co have cooked up doesn't unpick that ending too much and adds something fresh to the story.

Meanwhile, Kelsey Grammer will be back on our screens later this year in Lifetime's The 12 Days of Christmas Eve alongside his daughter Spencer Grammer (Rick and Morty).Kelsey stars as a rich businessman given 12 chances from Santa to have the perfect Christmas Eve to reconnect with his estranged daughter. The 12 Days of Christmas Eve will arrive on Lifetime later this year, and the Frasier revival will be released on Paramount+ sometime next year.
