Funny Girl, the hit musical starring Sheridan Smith has extended its London run at the Savoy Theatre before its even begun its run at the venue.
Currently running until March 5 at the Menier Chocolate Factory, fans can see the show ahead of its West End revival at the Savoy where it's set to be a success. The show will run until October 8. Tickets for the additional weeks go on sale tomorrow (Feb 8)
Funny Girl tells the story of Fanny Brice, a musical hall singer who rose to become one of Broadway’s biggest stars. While onstage she was lauded as a great comedian, off stage she struggled in a doomed relationship with the man she loved.
The musical, which features music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Bob Merrill, features classic songs including People and Don’t Rain On My Parade.
Smith is no stranger to the Savoy Theatre, we saw her there for the first time in Legally Blonde The Musical, she was a smash hit and certainly put our skeptical reviewing to rest.
At the end of Funny Girl's run at the Savoy, another revival will hit the stage in the form of Dreamgirls starring Amber Riley. Has the age of the jukebox musical come to a close, is the time of the revival dawning? We hope so but there's still room for original content too!
