I was a bit skeptical when Fox announced their intentions to make a quasi Batman prequel TV series, focusing on the previously untold early years of James Gordon long before he was the police Commissioner we all know and love. O.C star Ben McKenzie plays the steadfast detective with Donal Logue as his partner Harvey Bullock, they will face an assortment of criminals including Jada Pickett-Smith as Fish Mooney.
Having watched the freshly released extended trailer 99% of my skepticism has now been replaced with excited curiosity. Fox were clearly happy with what they have seen so far as they have officially given the series a full season order. The pilot episode came with a series commitment but in the tempestuous world of television a series commitment doesn’t always equal a pick-up for a full season.
For TV shows like Gotham a 22 episode run is usually the standard, currently no episode count has been confirmed from 20th Century Fox but word has it that ‘at least 13 episodes‘ will be produced. This gives the network the option of picking Gotham up for an additional nine episodes (or the back nine if you speak the lingo) should the series prove popular. Other series regulars include Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle and David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne.
