The DC Fandom Event has revealed many exciting teases for future projects with fresh footage from Black Adam, The Flash, and The Batman. The event was also home to the most welcome news that the brilliant unhinged Doom Patrol will be returning for a fourth season.
Launching back when DC attempted to have a dedicated streaming platform for its comic book content, or 2019, Doom Patrol is perhaps one of the oddest corners of the Worlds of DC. A group of outcast superheroes (who each endured a life-changing accident) are brought together by Niles Caulder (aka The Chief) to investigate the weird, the nightmarish, and the just plain WTF. The world might not want them, but the distraught members of Doom Patrol are the heroes the world needs.
Featuring a knockout cast that includes Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Matt Bomer, Brendan Fraser, Timothy Dalton, Joivan Wade, and Alan Tudyk, Doom Patrol quickly became one of my favourite TV shows. The third season is halfway through its run in the US and introduces a new character into the mix with Michelle Gomez's time travelling Madame Rouge. The Doctor Who and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star is a perfect fit for Doom Patrol, and the response to Madame Rouge has been overwhelmingly positive. In a recent interview before the third season launched, Gomez revealed what drew her to the role.
“The crux of her plight and her journey this season is that she has this trauma of not knowing who she is. That can present a lot of comic situations, but it’s also deeply disturbing to not know who you are and why you’re where you are, and all the big existential questions that go with that.
It’s like us as humans. We’re deeply flawed characters, but we can still be lovable at the same time.”
Doom Patrol continues on HBO Max, and UK fans will be able to watch Doom Patrol season 3 on StarzPlay when it arrives on November 14.
