The following article has potential spoilers for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween

Although it didn't make the sort of money that would merit a sequel, a follow-up to Goosebumps was announced shortly after the first film finished its run in cinemas back in 2015. When plans for the next chapter were put in motion, two scripts were developed with one featuring the return of Jack Black's R.L Stine, and the other without him. As Black wasn't featured in any of the trailers (and no onset snaps), it was assumed that he wouldn't be returning for the sequel. However, the latest TV spot reveals that Jack Black is indeed back on monster hunting duties as R.L Stine.

Given the similarly themed Jack Black-led, The House with a Clock in Its Walls claimed the top spot at the weekend; I guess Goosebumps marketing team thought it was time to let the cat out of the bag. Without sounding negative, the trailers thus far haven't set the internet ablaze with anticipation.

The presence of Jack Black will undoubtedly help with the advertising, but I can't help but feel concerned that what was intended as an extended cameo treat is now being used to sway audiences to buy a ticket. Full disclosure, it remains unclear if Black's appearance is a cameo or a fully-fledged supporting role, as we didn't know he was in the movie until three weeks before it arrived anything is possible. The updated synopsis includes Stine being part of the team, so we're likely looking at an 'and Jack Black' crediting situation.

Starring Wendi McLendon-Covey, Madison Iseman, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Caleel Harris, Chris Parnell, Ken Jeong, and Jack Black. Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween is unleashed in UK cinemas on October 19.
