It’s been announced that the next – and possibly last – game in the Metal Gear Solid series will be arriving in September. Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released worldwide on September 1st 2015, with a Steam version arriving two weeks later on September 15th 2015, according to a recent press release.

Metal Gear Solid V includes a variety of mechanics and systems, such as a dedicated day/night cycle and an accompanying weather system that requires players to utilise their tactical skills to adapt to the conditions in the world at that point in time. The game will also include features such as a customisable Mother Base, allowing players to expand its functionality, such as using staff at the facility to create weapons for the player to use.

Metal Gear Solid V will also allow players to take part in the multiplayer Metal Gear Online mode, which is expected to go live at launch on September 1st.

For those looking for special editions of the game with bonus content and collectibles, you’re in luck; there are already two special edition of the game being made available for collectors, including a Day 1 Edition (although only the contents of the physical version have thus far been confirmed), as well as a Collector’s Edition that will be limited to physical copies only.

It’s been widely reported that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be the final instalment in the series, after creator Hideo Kojima mentioned in an interview that he was “finally closing the loop” on the series thus far; however, many are skeptical, and quite rightly so – games news site Kotaku has already compiled a list of snippets from interviews where Kojima has indicated that he would be leaving, handing over or discontinuing the series, dating all the way back to 2000.
