A couple of months ago Netflix announced their plan to trial run special features for their original content, as we get closer to the launch of season two of House of Cards Netflix have added audio commentaries to all 13 season one episodes.

The roster of directors providing an insight into how the episodes were made include James Foley, Carl Franklin, Joel Schumacher and two commentaries from David Fincher who directed the first two episodes in addition to co-producing the series. To those of you that take the time to go through the special features the inclusion of bonus content on Netflix will come as welcome news. As much as I love Netflix I am addicted to extra features, the Breaking Bad bonus material is worth the price of the box sets alone so despite being a happy subscriber I still buy those shiny discs.

This is an important step in the streaming sites evolution to cater not just to the casual viewer but the entertainment connoisseur who wants the extra content. Although we’re along way off from Netflix offering the same comprehensive extras that accompany some releases the seeds for it are being sown. 

The complete second season of House of Cards will be available on Netflix Friday February 14th.
