Academy award winner Octavia Spencer will step into the iconic and comfortable shoes of Jessica Fletcher in a pilot episode for a new Murder She Wrote TV series.
Angela Lansbury played the best-selling author turned part-time sleuth in the hit series from 1984 to 1996 producing a staggering 264 episodes. Four TV movies were made after the show concluded with the last one airing in 2003.
NBC have drafted in Desperate Housewives producers David Janollari and Alexandra Cunningham in to develop this new spin on the classic series. Unlike the original version Octavia Spencer won’t play an established writer but will star as a hospital administrator with a keen interest in amateur sleuthing. This hobby opens up new doors for her and she releases her first mystery novel but she’ll soon find herself putting those detective skills to good use when she starts solving murders for real.
A pilot episode has been ordered and should it prove to be a success then a full series order will swiftly follow. There’s no details yet on if Octavia’s character will be named Jessica Fletcher, as long as they keep the theme tune the same I’m not too fussed what they call her.
