The following article contains spoilers for Scream (2022)

Ghostface will haunt the citizens of Woodsboro once again as a sequel to this year's Scream revival is officially happening. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the first Scream movie in more than a decade took the franchise back to its roots and fully delivered on the promise of a worthy sequel. A modest $24 million production budget yielded a global haul of $140 million, and the fresh take on the beloved franchise was greeted with high praise from critics.

Naturally, making the first Scream sequel without the legendary Wes Craven was a tall order, and you'd be forgiven for thinking it was an impossible task. Thankfully, Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin served up a shockingly good meta slasher mixing the surviving original cast with a fantastic mix of fresh faces. As you'd expect from a Scream sequel, the world of scary movies plays a big role, and the horror genre has come full circle since we last saw Ghostface on the big screen.

Speaking about the as-yet-untitled sequel, co-director Tyler Gillett teased that the next chapter will "risk it all".

"This movie has to be willing to risk it all in order to subvert all of those expectations. And we're so far down the rabbit hole of Scream movies, that it's all up for grabs at this point."

While the complete cast list has yet to be announced, one OG cast member will be back for another round with Ghostface. Courtney Cox recently confirmed that she'd be reprising her role as Gale Weathers, and we won't have to wait another ten years as production is due to start in Canda this June. Paramount recently revealed that Scream 6 will arrive in cinemas on March 31, 2023, just over one year from now.

Scream will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital on April 11.
