Shang-Chi Director In Talks For Spider-Man 4

Sony is finally moving forward with the next chapter of their Spider-Man franchise. While news on what's next for Tom Holland's Peter Parker has been light, the untitled sequel is in talks with Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) to direct. Cretton was previously attached to helm the Avengers Kang Dynasty; however, Marvel was forced to abandon that entire story arc when assault allegations were made against actor Jonathan Majors.

Infinity War and Endgame directors Anthony & Joe Russo will return to direct the now-retitled Avengers: Doomsday and the previously announced Secret Wars. Cretton may have missed out on Avengers, but he's still hard at work in the MCU on multiple projects. The first one we'll see will be the Wonder Man series under the Marvel Spotlight banner, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the actor/stuntman turned superhero. Also along for the ride will be Ben Kingsley, who will return as Trevor Slattery following his unexpected cameo in Shang-Chi. Cretton directs the first two episodes, with the series expected to drop on Disney+ in the Spring.

There's also the small matter of the already-announced sequel to Shang-Chi, which was noticeably absent from Disney's Comic-Con presentation. While we're sure to see some of the characters pop up in other MCU titles, it remains unclear when Shang-Chi 2 will be going into production. The fact that Sony is courting Cretton for Spider-Man 4 suggests that we'll see Peter Parker again long before a sequel to Shang-Chi.

The fallout of No Way Home's multiversal mayhem has led to a world where nobody knows who Peter Parker is, including those he holds dearest. According to Deadline, Tom Holland and Zendaya are in talks to reprise their roles, but that's about as much in the way of details.

Meanwhile, after directing all three of the previous Spider-Man movies, Jon Watts' new film will land on AppleTV+ later this month following a reduced theatrical run. George Clooney and Brad Pitt reteam for the action comedy Wolfs, which already has a sequel on the fast track.
