The misadventures of Korvo, Terry, Yumyulack, Jesse, and The Pumba will reach their epic conclusion as the Solar Opposites are set to Earth (or, in this case, Hulu/Disney+). Created by Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty) and Mike McMahan (Star Trek Lower Decks), the upcoming sixth season of the hilarious animated comedy will bring the show to an end.
For those of us who’ve followed the alien family’s chaotic journey through suburban life, it feels like saying goodbye to a group of weird but lovable characters who’ve become part of our regular TV diet. Ahead of the final episodes later this year, Hulu released a synopsis for what promises to be an emotional goodbye.
“Witness the wild chaos of this unhinged alien family as they get into hilarious mischief, all while the final chapter of an epic drama unfolds for the shrunken people they’ve imprisoned in their Wall. As the Solar Opposites navigate their unforgettable farewell, expect laugh-out-loud surprises at every turn.”
Plenty of Solar Opposites fans have said over the years that The Wall needs a spin-off series. If you've not seen it, Yumyulack and Jesse routinely shrunk random humans and imprisoned them in a community in their bedroom wall. It's part Lord of the Flies, part Mad Max, part Hunger Games, and it deserves a series to explore this further. Solar Opposites has dedicated numerous episodes to The Wall, and it only leaves its fans wanting more.
There’s always a risk when a TV show goes on a few seasons too many, and while six seasons isn’t the longest run for an animated show, it's better to end on a high note. The Simpsons was recently renewed for an additional four years, taking it to (are you sitting down) season 40. Does any scripted TV show need that many seasons?
Solar Opposites will return for its final season later this year, and you can catch up on the adventure so far on Hulu (U.S) or Disney+.
