The first season doesn’t start until Halloween, but Starz have given us an early treat by announcing that Ash vs. Evil Dead will return for a second season. Starz, managing director Carmi Zlotnik, made the announcement;

“One season isn’t enough to satisfy the fans’ two-decade-long appetite for more Ash. The early fan and press support, along with the international broadcaster demand for more story, have made it clear that the adventures of Ash Williams can’t end with Season 1.”

After an absence from our screens for more than 20 years, Bruce Campbell returns as hapless hero Ash Williams for a rematch with the Evil Dead. He might be older, a little slower and wearing a girdle, but Ash is still the king when it comes to fighting deadites.  While I enjoyed the brutal Evil Dead movie update, it just wasn't the same without Campbell and his cheeky charms.

Clearly Starz is happy with what producers Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert, Campbell, and showrunner Craig DiGregorio have cooked up. Not many TV shows get a renewal before any episodes have been broadcast, so the early renewal is exceedingly good news and cause for celebration.

Small screen continuations of hit movies have become a growing trend this year, Minority Report, and Limitless launched a few weeks ago with the latter recently being picked up for a full season. There is even a follow-up Romeo and Juliet series in the works (Still Star-Crossed), Grey’s Anatomy producer Shonda Rhimes is developing the project that will focus on the aftermath of the young lovers’ suicide.

The second season of Ash vs. Evil Dead will debut on Starz late 2016.
