DreamWorks has announced that its Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks’ thriller is titled Bridge of Spies. However, John Williams will not compose the soundtrack for the film. His place would be taken by Thomas Newman (Saving Mr. Banks, Road to Perdition and American Beauty).
It has been reported that John Williams had to skip the DreamWorks project because of a minor health issue. John Williams has composed music for 26 of Spielberg’s 27 films, with the exception of The Color Purple (1985). However, Williams will compose for Spielberg’s The BFG, slated for release on July 1 2016. Williams is one of the best known composers of his time and has composed music for Star Wars and Harry Potter films. The film is written by four-time Academy Award winners Coen brothers (Joel and Ethan) and Matt Charman. Coen brothers happen to be a rather surprising choice to write the script of the movie given that Spielberg writes the scripts of his movies himself. Coen brothers have won an Oscar for the screenplay of Fargo and for adapted screenplay, director and picture for No Country for Old Men.
Bridge of Spies is a dramatic thriller set in the cold War era. It centres around James Donovan (Tom Hanks), a lawyer who is pushed in the center of the Cold War when CIA sends him on a mission. The film is inspired by true events and – with stellar writing by the Coen brothers – would capture Donovan’s experience vividly. Bridge of Spies will be released on October 16, 2015.
Bridge of Spies has been financed by Fox 2000 Pictures and DreamWorks in association with Participant Media. Walt Disney will handle the domestic distribution of the film. Steven Spielberg is also one of the producers along with Kristie Macosko Krieger and Marc Platt.
