The CW has confirmed that they won’t be moving forward with the Supernatural spin-off series Bloodlines. Despite introducing some of the key characters in a backdoor pilot episode earlier this season, the network’s decision comes as something of a surprise.

Supernatural has been running for nine years now and a tenth season has already been ordered, the spin-off was seen as a potential way to continue the franchise should Jensen Ackles or Jared Padalecki quit the series. Ever since Supernatural’s creator Eric Kripke stepped down as showrunner at the end of season five, the series hasn’t quite been the same. I say that as a loyal fan that has stuck with the adventures of the Winchester brothers for almost a decade, in all honesty I was surprised it took the CW so long to get round to making a spin-off. We might see some of the Bloodlines characters pop up in Supernatural’s tenth season but nothing has been confirmed from the network.

The CW also cancelled The Tomorrow People and Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries, this makes way for a bunch of newbies including IZombie and Arrow spin-off The Flash. Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is one of the creative brains behind iZombie which is based on the comic books by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, both The Flash and iZombie will debut later this year.
