After months of searching neighborhoods everywhere, Marvel and Sony have finally agreed on which young actor will be the new Spider-Man. Tom Holland (The Impossible) has emerged as the winner of a very close race and will be inducted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War.

The announcement was made via Marvel.com and according to them;“The studios and producers were impressed by Holland’s performances in "The Impossible," “Wolf Hall,” and the upcoming "In the Heart of the Sea," and by a series of complex screen tests.”

Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman Tom Rothman added;

“It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy, and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding.  I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.” -

The other burning question hanging over the re-reboot of Spider-Man is who will be directing the solo movie? Well, Marvel has finally made a decision on that, Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car) has been awarded the daunting task of officially launching Spider-Man in the MCU. The previous movies from Watts certainly keeps in line with Marvel collaborating with filmmakers unversed in big studio projects. James Gunn, Jon Favreau, Joss Whedon and Kenneth Branagh were unusual yet inspired choices to helm their respective movies.

There’s no escaping the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a disappointment, it’s strange to label a movie that made more than $700 million a disappointment, but it that’s Hollywood for you. More than falling short of box office predictions, the sequel didn’t learn from the mistakes of Spider-Man 3 and overcrowded the movie with villains laced with needless foreshadowing.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 untagged Sony’s plans for parts three and four plus a proposed Sinister Six spin-off. You can’t help but feel a little sorry for Andrew Garfield, he did great work as Peter Parker and in many ways was better than Tobey Maguire. Let's not dwell on the past, now that Spider-Man is part of the MCU we can finally see him join the ranks of The Avengers the way nature intended.

Captain America: Civil War arrives on May 6, 2016, and the Spider-Man solo movie is due for release July 28, 2017.
