It was opening night of the 1991 New York Film Festival...Beauty and the Beast was just 70 percent complete, at various stages of animation, including line drawings, rough sketches, and conceptual scene paintings. The spectacular climax was at this stage on pencilled in. However, upon the film's conclusion, the crowd responded with a rare standing ovation!
