Sigrid Bakken (Dagny Lind) tragically lost her husband to the sea. And therefore she never wanted her son Rolf (Per Oscarsson) to become a fisherman like his old man. But Rolf can't stay away and defies his mother's wishes and takes on a job fishing cod.
