Middle-aged widow Dolly Murdock (Ann Sothern) has her aspiring actress daughter Tricia (Alexandra Hay) working as an exotic dancer at a local nightclub, with the hopes that Tricia will be discovered by somebody in show business. While working at the nightclub, Tricia meets washed-up film director Sean Howard (Peter Finch).
