When the Phase 4 line-up was revealed earlier this year, one superhero sequel was missing from the announcement, Ant-Man. To be fair, details on Captain Marvel 2 and Black Panther 2 were also absent, but both sequels had been confirmed to be in development. However, Ant-Man 3 had been discussed, yet at the time, Marvel hadn't given the movie the go-ahead.

Well, that's all changed now as Ant-Man 3 is 100% happening and is expected to land in cinemas summer 2022. Peyton Reed will return to direct with Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas all set to reprise their roles. The Ant-Man movies have always been well-timed, we got the first one after Age of Ultron, and Ant-Man and The Wasp arrived a couple of months after Infinity War.

They might make less money than the average MCU title, but the Ant-Man franchise offers a light touch with bags of fun. This latest development gives us a good idea of what Phase 5 will consist of; currently, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Blade, are the confirmed releases. There's also the small matter of Fantastic Four and weaving in the world of the X-Men.

Previously, it had been speculated that Disney hadn't announced Ant-Man's future could mean a Disney+ series was on the table. While that's not the case, I would be surprised if Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly make an appearance in one of the many Marvel TV shows on Disney+. Both are due to be lending their voices in an episode of the animated anthology What If?, but a live-action cameo could happen in WandaVision, Falcon and The Winter Soldier, or Loki. It remains unclear if Rudd and Lilly will feature in another MCU movie before Ant-Man 3, we can only hope.

Ant-Man 3 will be released on July 29, 2022.
