In a surprise announcement, Danny McBride is in early talks to join the cast of Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. McBride is best know for his role as Kenny Powers in Eastbound & Down and might not seem like the obvious choice to co-star in an Alien movie, but even in the depths of space a little humour goes a long way.

Ridley Scott recently revealed that Noomi Rapace’s Prometheus character Elizabeth Shaw would not be returning for the next chapter in the saga. Early reports indicated that she would be back alongside Michael Fassbender’s android David, but Shaw’s journey to find mankind’s creators has met with an abrupt end. Earlier this month Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) was added to the cast for a role that has previously been linked to Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation).

Unlike Prometheus, Covenant will fully embrace being connected to the Alien world and Ridley Scott has teased we will be seeing more of the classic Xenomorphs.

“There was always this discussion, is Alien, the character, the beast, played out or not? We’ll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy."

Production on Alien Covenant gets underway next month and will be the first instalment of a new trilogy that will take us right up to the events of the first movie. Danny McBride is back on the small screen later this year in HBO’s dark comedy Vice Principals, reuniting with Eastbound & Down co-creator Jody Hill, the series was given an order for eighteen episodes spread over two seasons.

Alien: Covenant touches down in cinemas on October 6, 2017.
