Speaking to Rolling Stone, Eddie Murphy has provided a brief update on Beverly Hills Cop 4 and it sounds like it could be a bit of a wait before the sequel goes before cameras.

"Nah, they still trying to get that script right. I'm not doing a Beverly Hills Cop unless they have a really incredible script. I've read a couple things that look like they can make some paper. But I'm not doing a sh**ty movie just to make some paper. The s**t got to be right.”

Aside from his Oscar nominated performance in Dreamgirls as James ‘Thunder’ Early, the output from Eddie Murphy has been decidedly poor since Bowfinger in 1999. You could argue that it’s ironic that Murphy doesn’t want to make a bad movie for the sake of it when films like Norbit, Pluto Nash, Tower Heist and the painfully self indulgent Meet Dave get the green light.

A fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie has been trapped in development hell for over 20 years, the widely panned third entry was a pale imitation of its predecessors and was a box office disappointment. Murphy appeared in the unaired pilot episode of Beverly Hills Cop TV series that focused on Axel Foley’s detective son, CBS passed on picking the pilot up for a full season and the episode remains locked in the vaults.

Eddie Murphy is also attached to the potential sequel to Twins, should the movie go ahead he will play the brother of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito for director Ivan Reitman. Writer Josh Gad recently announced that the project was 'on pause' from Universal, here’s hoping Gad has written a good script that will appeal to Murphy and make some paper.
