I had written a whole entire piece on the past ten years of playing MMO's and the recent disappointments I had suffered at the hands of game makers. However, after watching the trailer below, that entire page of text has gone and I shall just tell you now that what I want from my MMO's these days is a great character story and a PvP environment that doesn't just pit player against player but a world environment

With the announcement from Bethesda that their long touted Elder Scrolls series was going online, gamers around the world have been concerned about a number of things but mainly; How on earth will Zenimax the developers of this online experience maintain the quality and enthralling adventures that the series has become renowned for whilst adding in all those flourishes that make an MMO just that, an MMO?!

The cinematic trailer below may not give away much but it does something FANTASTIC. Starting off with PvE content it quickly moves above ground to show us just what we can expect from the PvP experience. What interests me is the fact that a siege on a keep can be done by scaling walls, using siege weapons that don't do damage but allow you to move from one level to the next. I assume that the usual siege equipment will be used to take down walls but is my favourite element of Guild Wars 2 going to be a more tactical affair in Elder Scrolls Online? Colour me STUNNED!

Either way this trailer is a brilliant start to what looks like it could be my most anticipated game of 2013! Whoever gets to manage this community will have a very gratifying job indeed.... did I mention I'm unemployed?

The Elder Scrolls Online is slated for release in 2013 and is being developed for the PC and the Mac by ZeniMax Online Studios. The studio is headed up by industry veteran Matt Firor who has more than 20 years of online game development experience.
