With Fast and the Furious 7 having already made $1.158 billion at the box office, it’s comes as no surprise that Furious and the Furious 8 will be released on April 14, 2017! Fast and the Furious star Vin Diesel confirmed at Universal’s CinemaCon panel, which is a yearly event for the theatre owners, that the next instalment to the franchise is really happening. Diesel said at the event, “It means a lot to me to get your blessing.”

Fast and the Furious 7 has become the first Universal Studio film to reach the $1 billion mark during its initial release. Jurassic Park (1993), another Universal Studios film, raked in $1.044 billion after it was released in 3D in 2013. Fast and the Furious 7 has made the studio about $857.9 million overseas and $300.5 million in North America alone.

The movie’s 17 day climb to $1 billion also marked a new record for the fastest film to reach that milestone (Avatar, The Avengers, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 crossed the $1 billion mark in just 19 days). Fast and the Furious 7 has propelled the “Fast & Furious” series past $3 billion worldwide.

The star also got teary eyed and made a special mention of Paul Walker, the star of the Fast and the Furious series who died in an unfortunate car accident in 2013. Fast and the Furious 7 had also dedicated a short film to Paul Walker. The Fast and the Furious movie series came into being with the 2001 film titled The Fast and the Furious. The movie was followed by six sequels, and also included two short films that are part of the series. There is also a video game series based on the movies which has made it one of the most money-making franchise for Universal Studios.
