Last year, Dame Helen Mirren revealed that her “great ambition’ was to be a “mad driver” in a Fast and Furious movie, naturally the internet approved and word of her ambition reached the muscular ears of Vin Diesel, who loved the idea. While you might have assumed that was the end of it or wishful thinking, fate has intervened and in a recent interview with Elle Magazine, Mirren has confirmed she is now officially part of the in production Fast 8.

“I’m about to do Fast and Furious 8. I’ve always rather loved driving. I said, ‘I’ll be in it, but only if I’m allowed to drive if I do drive in it.’ But we’ll see. We’ll see how it transpires.”

There’s no word yet on who Mirren might be playing, but a strong possibility could be the mother of those villainous Shaw brothers Owen (Luke Evans) and Deckard (Jason Statham). Academy Award winner Helen Mirren may not be the world’s most obvious petrol head, but she proved herself on the Top Gear track and was a dab hand behind the wheel in both Red movies.

The Fast and Furious movies have a reputation for adding big names for each new entry, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and Kurt Rusell are all back for part eight with franchise newcomer Charlize Theron joining the party as the main antagonist. Plot details remain under wraps, but at a guess, I'd say it will involve a convoluted globetrotting mission that will require impossible things from anything with four wheels.

Also starring Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Lucas Black, Nathalie Emmanuel and Scott Eastwood, Fast 8 speeds its way into cinemas on April 14, 2017.
