Idris Elba Joins He-Man Movie

Not content with voicing Knuckles in the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise, Idris Elba is set to co-star in another beloved children's property, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Elba has officially been cast as Man-at-Arms in the much-anticipated He-Man live-action movie. While things didn't work out so well the last time Hollywood made a live-action He-Man movie, the new version has a secret weapon, and it's not the Sword of Eternia.

Masters of the Universe will be directed by Travis Knight, who, before making his live-action debut with Bumblebee, directed animated masterpieces Boxtrolls, ParaNorman, and Kubo and the Two Strings. Next to the first of Michael Bay's Transformers movies, Bumblebee's 90s setting and low stakes delivered a nostalgia-driven adventure. Getting back to Elba's character, Man-at-Arms, also known as Duncan, is a pivotal character in the He-Man universe. A skilled warrior and inventor, he serves as the trusted adviser to Prince Adam (He-Man) and a father figure to Teela.

Elba joins the already cast Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, and Camila Mendes as Teela. There's no word yet on who will be playing He Man's arch nemesis Skeletor, Mark Hamill voiced the iconic villain in both seasons of Netfix's reimagined Masters of the Universe from creator Kevin Smith. Will the new take on Skeletor be a CGI or Motion-captured character? Or perhaps they'll bag an Oscar-winning actor, and go old school with practical make-up. Either way, we'll find out soon as filming is set to start in the new year.

Masters of the Universe is currently in pre-production, with a tentative release date set for late 2025. A mid-2026 launch seems more plausible as this is bound to be an effects-heavy project.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 will be released in cinemas everywhere from December 21st.
