The ever busy Julianne Moore is in line to cause merry hell for Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and his fellow spies in the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moore is in talks with 20th Century Fox to play the main villain, and Eggsy’s adventures will take him across the pond to the US.

He might have opted out of Kick-Ass 2 and passed on X-Men Days of Future Past, but Matthew Vaughn is said to be returning to the director’s chair to helm Kingsman 2 making it the filmmakers very first sequel. Released early last year, Kingsman proved to be a surprise box office smash taking more than $400 million worldwide. Nobody expected Colin Firth to be so downright awesome as a highly trained killing machine, no offence to the Academy Award winner, but I just didn’t think he had it in him. A hyper-violent Mr Darcy was just one of many treats in a bawdy action comedy that was one of the cinematic highlights of last year.

Should the deal come to pass, Kingsman will make a refreshing change of pace for Julianne Moore, who doesn’t delve into comedic waters nearly as often as she should. She’ll have some pretty big shoes to fill as Samuel L Jackson’s squeamish mastermind Richmond Valentine was a formidable foe. Production is due to start this summer with a script by Vaughn and his regular collaborator Jane Goldman, Kingsman 2 is due for release June 16, 2017.

Taron Egerton races back onto our screens this month starring opposite Hugh Jackman in Dexter Fletcher’s Eddie The Eagle. Meanwhile, Julianne Moore can be seen next starring alongside Ellen Page in Peter Sollett’s powerful drama Freeheld.
