Last week Marvel announced their plans to team up with Netflix to produce four new shows that bring Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Daredevil exclusively to the streaming site. Hot off the heels of that comes the latest development in the form of Cabin in the Woods director and co-writer Drew Goddard is in talks to scribe the Daredevil series.

Goddard has a been a long time collaborator of Joss Whedon and has penned episodes of  Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel as well as last year’s Cabin in the Woods. As you all know Whedon is heavily tied to the Marvel Universe so Goddard seems an ideal choice to shepherd the harder edged Daredevil series.

Marvel are wasting no time getting these four new projects off the ground, Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg will be developing the Jessica Jones series so expect some news on who will be writing Iron fist and Luke Cage sooner rather than later.

Each of the 13 episode shows will lead towards a one-off team up mini-series called Defenders, looking to replicate the success of their cinematic counterparts the landmark deal with Netflix will undoubtably see other studios reexamine superhero characters on the small screen. Despite the fan-sites claiming actors such as Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), Joel Kinnaman (Robocop) are shoe-ins, there are no official details about casting Matt Murdock/Daredevil but if they can secure Goddard to write the series then they’ve struck a creative bullseye.
