There's still a few months to go before Kingsman: The Golden Circle arrives in cinemas, but co-writer and director Matthew Vaughn already has a plan for a third instalmnet During a Q&A for a recent Fox footage event in London, Vaughn revealed that he and co-writer Jane Goldman were working on ideas for a third movie during the development of The Golden Circle.
Weirdly while we were writing Kingsman 2, we were thinking of Kingsman 3 as well, which is odd. We've got a big idea for that. This is sort of the bridge and if we can pull this off, we'll make another one.
While it's not uncommon for further sequels to be mapped out in advance, Vaughn has previously voiced his concerns over making sequels, and he reiterated those concerns at the event.
I was very hesitant about making a sequel purely because so many sequels don't really enhance the experience. They're normally bigger but not necessarily better. Kick-Ass 2 was a big learning curve of how not to make a sequel. We didn't set out to make a terrible film.
Matthew Vaughn might have passed on directing Kick-Ass 2, but he remained involved a producer. I'll refrain from prattling on about how bad Kick-Ass 2 was, if its shortcomings have helped Vaughn make a better Kingsman sequel, then Kick-Ass 2 wasn't a complete waste of time.
The recently released first trailer for The Golden Circle certainly presents a wider (more violent) world for Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) to explore. But we'll have to wait until the finished film touches down in cinemas to find out if The Golden Circle is better than The Secret Service.
Starring Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Elton John, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, and Colin Firth. Kingsman: The Golden Circle is released on September 22.
