If you thought that the cast for the highly-anticipated Dexter Resurrection couldn’t get any more star-studded, you'd be dead wrong. In addition to the (somehow) returning Michael C Hall, the returning cast included David Zayas (Detective Angel Batista), Jack Alcott (Dexter’s son Harrison), James Remar (Harry Morgan), Uma Thurman, Krysten Ritter, and Peter Dinklage have also been cast in as-yet-undisclosed roles.
Recent on-set photos confirmed an almost unrecognisable Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) will be in the mix in a mysterious role. All we can confirm is NPH has a mighty fine moustache for his guest role. He’ll be joined by fellow sitcom royalty Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) in what Deadline has reported as ’a major arc' throughout the series.
Stonestreet starred in all 11 blockbuster seasons of the sitcom Modern Family as Cameron Tucker; could his 'major arc' on Dexter shows off his darker side? Only time will tell, but Dexter has a history of chilling performances from more comedy inclined actors. John Lithgow remains the MVP of Dexter villains for his haunting turn in season 4 as The Trinity Killer.
When we last saw Dexter in New Blood, the former Bay Harbor Butcher was seemingly left for dead by his own son's hand. However, in the first episode of the prequel series Original Sin, Dexter's condition is upgraded to critically wounded, which serves as the framing device for his origin story. Dexter’s original showrunner, Clyde Phillips (who returned for New Blood and Original Sin), oversees Resurrection, which is currently being filmed.
While it remains unclear if Original Sin will be back for a second season (given its success, it looks highly likely), we’ll see Dexter again soon as Resurrection launches on Paramount+ and Showtime this summer.
