The classic arcade game Q*Bert is coming to Playstation consoles in the form of LOOT Entertainment's Q*Bert Rebooted this February, bringing with it a number of new modes and challenges to test both veteran Q*Berters and newcomers to the game.

In the original version of the game, the player must guide the oddly-shaped fellow named Q*Bert around an isometric pyramid, in order to change the colour of every cube that makes up the pyramid by having Q*Bert jump onto it. Q*Bert's mission is made harder by obstacles and enemies that Q*Bert may run into.

In LOOT Entertainment's Q*Bert Rebooted, this version of the game is included alongside a number of new modes and challenges – including a version of the game where the pyramid is made up of hexagonally-shaped blocks, which alters the way in which the player must navigate Q*Bert across the pyramid. Also included will be new playable characters, new enemies with behaviours that alter how the game must be approached, collectable power-ups and more.

Product Manager James Sorenson spoke a little on the Playstation Blog about the new features included in Q*Bert Rebooted, as well as why he felt Q*Bert has enjoyed lasting appeal since the days of its original release in 1982.

Q*Bert endures because, like all of the best designs from that era, it’s straightforward, memorable, and timelessly challenging. Whether you played it yesterday or thirty years ago, Q*Bert classic is just as engaging as it was when it came out. This is the genuine classic arcade version of Q*Bert! Q*Bert Rebooted will have you on your toes as you try to figure out the complex maps while the screen throws all sorts of enemies at you.

Q*Bert is HARD. Not artificially, stupidly, punish-you-just-to-add-replay-time hard — just challenging enough for the casual user to enjoy and engaging enough for the serious gamer who wants bragging rights.

Remember when you had to really hone your skills because every go ‘round cost a quarter? Sometimes the most “casual” games are the ones which, frankly, are for the truly hardcore.

Q*Bert Rebooted will be available on Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita from February 17th if you're in the US, and on February 18th in the EU. The game is available as a Cross-buy purchase, meaning that if you buy the game on one console, you'll be able to play it on any of the others its available on, without needing to buy separate copies for each console.
