Surprise! Sega has announced Valkyria Chronicles 4, the first main installment in the tactical RPG series since 2011. It will launch for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in 2018.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the proper follow-up to Valkyria Chronicles 3, a PSP title, which was never released in North America and Europe.

Set during the events in the first Valkyria Chronicles, the all-new story focuses on a different set of characters led by Claude Wallace, a young commander in the Edinburgh Army.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 continues the same unique gameplay seen in the first three installments, which combines turn-based RPG and third-person shooter mechanics. None of those oversimplified action-RPG mechanics found in Valkyria Revolution, a disappointing spinoff released earlier this year.

Hitoshi Sakimoto also returns as the composer after skipping Valkyria Revolution, which was scored by Yasunori Mitsuda.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the sixth game in the Valkyria series. That's including the Japan-only mobile game Valkyria Chronicles D. You can check out the official website.
