Warner Bros are moving swiftly with their casting choices for Suicide Squad with offers going out to Tom Hardy and Will Smith.
The movie was announced earlier this week as part of the ten picture slate of DC projects coming our way over the next six years. Fury director David Ayer is directing the super-villain team-up that has a release set for 2016, the exact date has yet to be revealed but it will definitely be after Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice hits cinemas on March 24 the same year.
Will Smith previously announced that he was stepping away from big blockbusters in search of more varied material, he’s already turned down Independence Day 2 and he ruled himself out of the in development Men In Black 4. Will Smith has a good history with Warner Bros and is still a highly bankable actor, even damming reviews for MIB 3 didn’t get in the way of a massive $624 million worldwide. Having previously dabbled with the superhero genre with Hancock, Smith can use that winning charm to play one heck of an antihero in Suicide Squad.
Tom Hardy needs no introduction in the world of DC having played Baine in Christopher Nolan’s finale to the Dark Knight Trilogy, we also know he’s committed to long term venture following the numerous reshoots on Mad Max Fury Road. At this stage there’s no word on which members of the team Smith and Hardy are inline for, but Deadline confirm that deals are very close to being signed.
