We won't get to meet Tessa Thompson's Asgardian warrior Valkyrie until Thor: Ragnarok arrives in cinemas, but she'll be on hand to help The Avengers in next year's Infinity War. Thompson was seen on the Infinity War set during a production stint in Scotland, and even stopped to take a selfie with a fan.
Tessa Thompson made a lasting impression with her role in Dear White People, and she followed that up with the one-two punch of Creed and HBO's insanely addictive Westworld. Naturally, with Natalie Portman's Jane Foster sitting out the trilogy closer led some Marvel fans to the conclusion that Valkyrie and Thor might become more than just trusted allies. Earlier this year, Kevin Feige discussed Thor's relationship with Jane and why Valkyrie is a key part of the movie.
"We wanted Thor to encounter somebody that was near his equal and that his relationship with Jane may have evolved in unexpected ways in between The Dark World and Ragnarok and we wanted to pit him against a character who was much more his equal and in many ways his superior. Valkyrie is trying to not embrace any sort of Asgardian heritage that she has. Thor thinks maybe that will create a bond between them and, on the contrary, she wants to forget it all entirely."
We've already been teased by Mark Ruffalo that we can expect an intergalactic buddy road movie when his Hulk teams up with Thor. If that's not enough to entice you to see it then I don't know what will.
While it could be considered a minor spoiler that we know Valkyrie will emerge from Ragnarok intact, it was bound to come out sooner or later. At this stage, it might be more efficient for Marvel to release a list of characters that won't be featuring in Avengers: Infinity War.
Thor: Ragnorak is released in UK cinemas on October 27, and Avengers: Infinity War launches on April 27, 2018.
