Now that the summer movie season is over, we can all turn our attention to the most anticipated release of 2015. Star Wars: The Force Awaken arrives in cinemas on December 18, and in case you hadn’t noticed the whole world is rather excited.

For all the dizzying special effects, pod races and clone wars, for many fans it’s the epic fight scenes throughout the saga have gone down in movie history. To celebrate these iconic scenes of good vs. evil, those clever folks over at Morph Costumes have created a neat infographic that highlights the top ten fight scenes across the six existing Star Wars movies.

The criteria Morph Costumes have set boils down to “inventiveness, choreography, emotional impact and the sheer awesome-ness”. In a controversial move, one of the least liked entries in the franchise has emerged top of pops. The Phantom Menace seldom appears at the top of any Star Wars list, however, the lightsaber duel that pitted Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon against Darth Maul is a breathless piece of cinema. While I won’t argue that the sequence is worthy of being in the top three, the Luke vs. Darth Vader lightsaber battle from Empire Strikes Back is my personal favourite.

Thanks to the prequels, one of the most frantic and shocking moments of the original trilogy has been undone. Watching the saga in chronological order, we already know that Vader is Luke’s father by the end of Revenge of the Sith. That’s what I love about Star Wars, almost 40 years on, and it still invokes spirited debate and endless reexamination.
